Firstly, start with the vocabulary questions as they're quite straight-forward and can be solved quickly then move towards the RC's. See to it that you don't spend a lot of time on a single question, if you don't know the answer, either mark it randomly or make an educated guess. If you think you can solve that question but may take some time, mark it for review and move on. To prepare for this section, ensure that you have good grammar and vocabulary skills, as well as a good reading speed.

NMAT is a better exam as it provides you a chance to be eligible to take admission in NMIMS Mumbai, one of the top 15 B-schools.

It depends upon your B-school preference, both the exams are unique and considered important. If you're targeting NMIMS (Mumbai and other campuses), XIMB, Amity University, etc., then you need to give the NMAT exam. If you're targeting colleges like Somaiya, Sydenham, Great Lakes, GIM, etc. then you should give CMAT. Both the exams deal with English, mathematics, and Logical Reasoning, CMAT also includes GK. NMAT includes no negative marking (+3, 0), whereas CMAT does (+4, -1). You can give NMAT thrice, while CMAT is held only on 2 days I.e. 28 & 29th Jan 2017. So, compare the features of these exams and take a call.

You can apply for Amity University, Alliance University, IBS & XIMB. However, they are not as great as NMIMS.
