VILT stands for Virtual Instructor-Led Training. It refers to online training in which an actual instructor provides a live session to students using a virtual classroom platform.

Main characteristics of VILT sessions:

  • They are conducted live, on a particular date and time.

  • You and the teacher participate in the session remotely.

  • You may engage with the teacher and other students via video, audio, or text.

  • The aim of VILT sessions is to mimic a regular classroom learning process by using technology.

Please note that ISO VILT courses tend to be invitation-only, i.e., you have to be invited or pre-approved to attend.

Though the world of digitalization has made everything online, a few colleges may require you to fill out the form in the offline mode at the college window

Yes, some free online courses award certificates of completion. They come in handy for your resume or for personal files. The rules of offering certificate of completion vary depending on the platform:

  • Alison and FutureLearn sometimes provide a free certificate once you have passed all the modules and a test.

  • Coursera and edX allow you to learn for free but require payment for a verified certificate with your name and completion date.

Certificates won't license you as a nurse, but they provide evidence of learning, which is helpful when searching for internships or assistant work.
