Admissions are made through CAP counselling on the basis of marks obtained in 10+2.
Eligibility:
Candidate must have completed 10+2 with science stream/ Vocational /Technical form a recognized board are eligible.
Candidate having 10th with 2 years ITI in a relevant specialization are eligible for the lateral entry. Regards.

Hi Kunal,
Yes, polytechnic students give JEE Mains paper but only get an entry from 1st year in IIT. Diploma students don't have a lateral entry scheme in IIT. So, if you really want to get into an IIT for B.Tech, you will have to sit for both Mains & Advanced exams and crack them. So, if you only want to get into an IIT. Don't mind an added year and prepare very thoroughly for Mains & Advanced and clear them (which is a herculean task to do as they have a wide range of questions with ultimate depths). Yes. You can get admission for B.Tech mechanical. Polytechnic students can get direct admission in 2nd year i.e. called lateral entry or direct second year. Based on your percentage of polytechnic, you can get admission. Enquire in college directly to find out the procedure.

In general, once you complete 10th you can opt for polytechnic. Coming to your query you will lose an extra year in your academic journey. But of course it will be easy for you in your engineering to understand the subject. Having said that, of course you should join in a good college/institute.
