At present, the acronym SAT does not have any meaning or full form since its evolution back in 2024. The SAT full form changed from Scholastic Aptitude Test to Scholastic Assessment Test. This happened because the latter suggested that SAT assessed applicant's skills and abilities based on their high school education. Thus, College Board decided to term SAT as the Scholastic Assessment Test. But now there is no full form, the exam is referred to as SAT only.

SAT full form was Scholastic Aptitude Test in 1926 uptil 1993. Later on it changed to Scholastic Assessment Test. Currcntly the exam is referred to as SAT with no meaning to each letter. Thus, it is no longer an acronym.

SAT registration does not require 12th marks also because some students may sit for SAT exam before completing their class 12th. Thus, there is no such provision of appearing for SAT and requiring class 12th marks for the same. Applicants can register for the SAT exam even without qualifying for the class 12th exams.

Since SAT has gone digital, the process of scoring on SAT has changed. Here is how SAT is calculated in a step-by-step process below:
- College Board scores questions based on correctness, there is no negative marking for wrong or unattempted questions.
- SAT scores are usually determined by Item Response Theory (IRT) which is a consideration of the question's difficulty and patterns in answers.
- Pretest questions on SAT are included to gather data and they usually do not affect the SAT scores.
- Benchmarks for college readiness based on SAT scores remain consistent with the new testing pattern.
