No. English is official language of instruction and business. You can complete your degree and work in a corporate role without knowing Mandarin. Entire ecosystem operates in English. However, picking up a few basic conversational phrases is a smart strategic move for faster social bonding.

This is a serious legal contract. If you break the bond (i.e., you do not work in a Singapore entity for 3 years), you are liable to pay "Liquidated Damages." This amounts to the total tuition subsidy you received plus compounded interest (usually 10% per year). Do not sign the Singapore Tuition Grant 2026 if you intend to leave immediately.

Generally, no. If you have scored above 75-80% in English in your Class 12th boards (CBSE/ISC), Public Universities in Singapore usually waive the English proficiency requirement. However, for a Master's degree, it is often required unless your undergraduate degree was taught entirely in English.

Yes, NUS is considered one of the best Engineering universities globally. Students get access to modern research facilities. The courses are taught by world-class faculty, who are very well-versed in their domain. The university also maintains connections with some of the best companies across industries. Shiksha ranks it the best university for Engineering in Singapore, while QS ranks it #12 globally, for 2025.

Both are very good but in different areas. Harvard has the better global reputation and stonger connections globally. NUS has better connections in Asia, similar quality of placements, and is far more affordable than Harvard University. In terms of culture, there is greater diversity at Harvard, compared to NUS. Students have better chances of admission at the National University of Singapore, as Harvard's acceptance rate is just 3.6%.

Singapore PR lets you live and work there freely. You do not need to carry or worry about constant visa renewals. You can switch jobs easily and buy affordable public homes. Also, you get low cost healthcare.
