The easiest way to tell them apart is to look at what comes after the word.

  • If it is followed by just a noun (no verb), it is usually a Preposition.

    • For example, We went home after the movie. (Preposition)

  • If it is followed by a subject and a verb (a whole mini-sentence), it is usually a Conjunction.

    • For example, We went home after the movie ended. (Conjunction)
