Previously till July 2018, the National Eligibility Test was conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education. July 2018 Exam was conducted offline by CBSE. But in Dec 2018, the test was conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency). This was the first time when the UGC NET was fully Computer Based Test (CBT). The upcoming UGC NET Exam will be conducted in July 2019. The exam pattern will be the same as per the previous one. So, it will be conducted in online mode only. Important Note- UGC NET Exam Syllabus is revised for all the subjects. Candidates are advised to download the updated UGC NET Syllabus from the official website. I hope it helps.

Let me share the brief information about UGC NET Exam here. The UGC NET is a national level exam which is held by National Testing Agency twice a year. This exam allows you to be an assistant professor in the universities, for junior research fellowship and to pursue Ph.D or higher studies. The eligibility criteria to apply for the exam is as follows:
The candidates must be below 30 years of age for the NET JRF while there is no age limit criteria for the NET lectureship.
The candidates can apply only for the subject opted in post graduation or its related subject. As you have completed the Master's degree in sociology, you are eligible to apply for UGC NET Sociology exam. UGC NET Exam is held for around 100 subjects and the syllabus is available at the official website. The NTA has decided to conduct the UGC NET Exam in July and December month. Hello, If you want to become a lecturer or researcher, then you can apply for CSIR UGC NET exam. As you have done M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering you can appear in CSIR NET Physical Science. To appear in the exam you should have minimum 55% aggregate marks in M.Tech if you belong to general/OBC category or if you are from SC/ST/Pwd category then you should have minimum 50% aggregate marks. CSIR NET exam is conducted for Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor. So if you want to apply for JRF then your age must not exceed 28 years. Reserved categories and women aspirants get the 5 years age relaxation. For Assistant Professor, no age criteria is applicable.

The UGC NET and CSIR NET exam are held to determine the eligibility for assistant professor posts in university & colleges. The major difference between UGC NET and CSIR NET is that CSIR NET exam is held for Science stream candidates while UGC NET exam is held for other stream candidates. The minimum eligibility to apply for the UGC NET Exam is that you must have post-graduation degree with more than 55% marks from recognized university. The candidates are allowed to apply for their post-graduation subjects only.
Paper 1 is common for all the subjects which consists 50 questions related to mental ability, reasoning and teaching aptitude etc. The Paper 2 consists subject related 100 questions. The paper 1 is held for 1 hour while paper 2 is held for 2 hours having each question of 2 marks. All the questions will be multiple choice questions. National Eligibility Test (NET) is a national level exam meant for scrutinizing the expert of the knowledge required for holding the position of Lecturers/professors/ associates/ research fellows at India's reputed universities. Earlier CBSE conducted the NET exam, but from December 2018 it is conducted by the National Testing Agency. To qualify the UGC NET exam, you have to crack NET exam which is divided into two parts I. e. Paper 1 and Paper 2. You have to score minimum marks in UGC NET which are as follow -
General Category Candidates 40 marks or 40% in Paper-I, 80 marks or 40% in Paper-II. Reserved Category Candidates 35 marks or 35% in Paper-I, 70 marks or 35% in Paper-II. Apart from that each subject has their separate cut-offs. Candidates need to achieve that target to qualify for the exam.
