Hi,Yes, you can start preparing. Just ensure that you have a Bachelor's degree with good minimum percentage from a recognized university to qualify for the exams. Coming to eligibility part, for General Category candidates, the new age limit is 32 years and the number of attempts is 06. For OBC Category candidates, the new age limit is 35 years and the number of attempts is 09. For SC/SC Category candidates, the new age limit is 37 years while the number of attempts unlimited. For preparation of IAS and UPSC, I would prefer you study subjects such as History, Economics, and Geography which will make you competent for the exam.

Books to be referred are:
1. Ancient Indian History : Old NCERT by R. S Sharma
2. Medieval Indian History: Old NCERT by Satish Chandra
3. Modern Indian History: Old NCERT by Bipin Chandra
4. Art and Culture: NCERT Class XI (Intro to Indian Art &Living Craft Traditions of India- only ch-9 & 10)
5. Geography: NCERTs of Class 612 mandatory at least from ninth; for extra topics which aren't covered in NCERTS refer to G. C. Long.
6. World History and Society: Do follow any one institution's notes.

Hi Vishal Kumar, With a Masters in Geography, you may choose to consider teaching for which you will have to complete a teacher training course like a B.Ed. Or appear for the UGC NET Exams for lectureship. Other options are tourism, ticketing etc. All these have a natural extension to geography. The best would be to study Geographic Information Systems popularly known as GIS which is a rapidly growing technological field for resource planning and management. This is something which you need to decide. There are 3 types of aspirants:-
1. After X or during XI or XII standards that they want to become IAS or IPS officers to serve the nation and her people.
2. Those who decide during or just after finishing their university education that they wish to be civil servants.
3. Those who decide rather late in life about their IAS calling and pursue it while on a job or after working for a few years in the corporate sector. PG Degree is the best and rational choice for you. I don't mean to discourage you but see that you are at 30 and a degree of PG will strengthen your career efforts. Whole doing PG, you can keep your preparation for UPSC on. But I shall not put your UPSC aspirations first over Higher Studies.
