Private Universities do accept students from other institutions. They will admit only if there is a valid reason, vacancy and also some academic performance. In many cases, students with backlogs get admitted. In some cases, students without backlogs get rejected as there is not enough slots or the reasons are spurious. If the university permits, go to the parent university and get a No Objection Certificate with the mark list and TC. In many cases, the universities may insist on some more money to be paid. See, if the branch is not a barrier, you should definitely go for IIT or IIIT, as it stands out on its own and you'll get a great exposure there. But if you are sure with your branch that's EC, then NIT-Silchar is a great college.
