VIT Chennai admission to PhD course is based on entrance-exam. The institute conducts VITREE for admission to PhD course. VITREE is a computer-based test of two hours conducted at the test venue opted by the candidate. Selected candidates are further called for a personal interview round.

Candidates must pass a master’s degree in relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% aggregate or a CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale to apply for VIT Chennai PhD programme. Besides, aspirants must also qualify VITREE followed by a personal interview round for admission.

A pass in 10+2 with an overall aggregate of 60% with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) as compulsory subjects and valid NATA score.He/She must have obtained a minimum aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology in the qualifying exam. However, the minimum percentage marks for candidates belonging to SC/ST category, Jammu and Kashmir/ Ladakh and the North Eastern states is 50%.
