The college is strict when it comes to the eligibility requirements of B.Tech. in Naval Architecture and Ship Building at CUSAT. The candidate must have a minimum of 60% marks in the Plus Two (10+2) examination with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as subjects of study, and a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics as well as for Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry put together. Additionally, candidates belonging to Kerala Scheduled Caste (KSC) and Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) communities are eligible for applying if they have minimum pass marks in the qualifying examination, and SEBC candidates of Kerala State who are certified as belonging to non-creamy layer are eligible for 5% relaxation in the minimum required marks for qualifying examination.

To apply for B.Tech. in Marine Engineering at CUSAT, candidates should register for CAT 2025, select the course B.Tech, and complete the application registration. The admission is based on the IMU rank, and candidates need to appear for the Common Entrance Test conducted by Indian Maritime University (IMU). Existing registrants can update their IMU CET details. The programme has an intake capacity of 80 students per year, selected on an all-India basis by conducting the Common Admission Test (CAT). The B-tech degree programme in Marine Engineering spans 8 semesters, providing students with a modern and sound education in basic Science and engineering subjects, along with in-depth knowledge of various facets of marine engineering. An intensive practical training of 6 months duration is given to all cadets inside the DG-approved Ship-in-Campus Lab and in the machinery overhauling workshop.
