IIT Bombay, including its Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management (SJSOM), typically considers a holistic approach to admissions. While academic achievements and performance in qualifying exams like CAT (Common Admission Test) or other MBA entrance exams are crucial factors, many IITs, including IIT Bombay, also consider extracurricular achievements and work experience during the admission process.Extracurricular achievements, such as participation and excellence in sports, cultural activities, leadership roles, community service, or any other notable accomplishments, can strengthen an applicant's profile and make them stand out during the selection process. These achievements demonstrate a well-rounded personality, leadership qualities, and the ability to manage time effectively, which are essential attributes for successful management professionals. However, the weightage given to extracurricular achievements may vary from one institute to another and can also depend on the specific MBA programme or specialisation within SJSOM. The admission committee usually evaluates each candidate's overall profile, including academic records, entrance exam scores, work experience, statement of purpose (SOP), letters of recommendation, and extracurricular activities. It's essential for applicants to thoroughly check the official admission guidelines and criteria of SJSOM, IIT Bombay, to understand the specific factors considered during the admission process. If you are interested in applying, I recommend visiting the official website of SJSOM or contacting their admission office for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding admission preferences and selection criteria.
