Sastra University is one of the best colleges which give good placement to their student on the basic of their academic record. Many companies such as AMAZON, PAYPAL, THOROGOOD, CISCO, MICROSOFT are paying between 11 LPA to 24 LPA to its students. All you need to crack Amazon or PayPal is skill in coding or programming with a minimum CGPA of 7.5.
Speaking of average package, we have a pot including ZOHO, GOFRUGAL, MU SIGMA, IBM, INAUTIX, FRESH DESK, TVS, HYUNDAI, HONEYWELL etc. which are giving a package between 4 LPA to 6 LPA.
Most companies in this list don't have a stringent eligibility criteria. Over and above, these few major recruiters, SASTRA attracts a lot of startup and small scale enterprises like NOLOGO, NORTON, SUNMAR, SUPER GAS, TAFE, FACE, MURUGAPPA which are paying a decent package of 2.5 to 4 LPA.

Yes, you can change your department from mechanical to CSE at the end of first year through sliding process provided that you must have a CGPA greater than 8.5. As CSE is most demanded department and I may not assure you surely you will get CSE as vacancies should be there at the end of the counselling or one must slide from CSE to other department to create a vacancy.

Join NIT. The grooming and exposure will be altogether different from a local college.

So if you have a good score in your B.Sc then you can easily get a seat at SASTRA University.
Hope this helps.
