Only with board exam marks he may get admission but the percentage is not that good to get a good course. So, even if he didn't qualify JEE mains he may enter his JEE main scores. With these 2 parameters, he can get admission.

Sorry, I have never heard about Nirma University. But, I will give my opinion about Sastra University. Sastra University is a world class institutions at par with the best private institutions of India. In Tamil Nadu, it is one of the top 5 colleges. Plenty of research opportunities and placements are available. Culture of Sastra University is very good, as people of various states study here.

Please mention the stream in which you have got this rank. I think this is for stream 1 and in stream 1 counselling, you may not get mechatronics as your AIR and TNR rank is not that good.
Under stream 2, if your TNR rank is below 500 or 600 then you may get it.
June 19, 20 & 21 are for stream 1 counselling and June 21 is for stream 2 counselling.

You have good chances of getting the top courses like computer science engineering (CSE), mechanical, ECE, EEE, etc. but it also depends on the rank secured and the seats available. Hello Bharadwaj, you really have a good percentage in your board exams. so you can surely get a seat. the admission is based on two streams :
stream 1: JEE Main and board exam marks (70%).
stream 2: only board exam marks(30%).
If you apply under stream 1 ,then you need not apply separately for stream 2. If they wish to take you under stream 2, then they will put you under stream 2 and admit you.
But anyways you can get admission with your board exam percentage. Your marks will be converted into percentile like: for example, if you have got 50 marks in jee and 95% in boards then,
50(0.25)+95(0.75)=83.75.
In this way they will put you in a rank.
