We can differentiate one from other on the basis of following factors.
1. Faculty: Faculty at Amrita and VIT are reasonably good but more number of Ph.Ds are at Amrita I guess. Faculty at Amrita are friendly compared to faculty at other colleges.
2. Discipline and Values: In this Amrita stands at top giving importance to discipline and values. Along with education for living one can learn education for life at VIT only. But VIT university sometimes fails in this( this is from the information of my friends)
3. Labs: Labs are good at Amrita, VIT and Manipal University.
4. Infrastructure: Infrastructure at Amrita is good compared to rest. Vellore also has good infrastructure and hotels they say. But being in Amrita is homely.
5. Placements: Placements percentage at VIT stands top among these but the placement percentages of others is also not very low. They are almost comparable. But the companies come to hire, sometimes take the students for IT jobs (even the non-computer science student). Students placed in core (mechanical, electrical and electronics ) are low, mostly they will be placed in TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra etc. Based on the above details you have to decide which suits you.

LNMIIT
PESIT
Jadavpur University
COMEDK Colleges like RVCE, BMSCE etc. Galgotias University, Thapar University, Amity University etc.

No, it isn't possible unless you are an NRI student because I have a lot of friends who didn't get admission because they did not give VITEEE exam.
There is no donation fee here. Let me explain you the system. The system is very simple, for a particular branch, there are few seats (eg. 250 seats) in first category. The first category could be understood as the seats given to the merit holders of VITEEE. The fees here is minimum and actually very cheap. Generally, VITEEE rank holders up to 20K can only contest for these seats. Then there is category 2 which again comprises of 230 seats and in this category, the fee is little high (you may say it includes donations in the fee). So, your fee for category two will be more for every branch and generally students over 20K rank contest test for these seats. When category 2 gets full rankwise, category 3 will be open and one can go and take a seat if her/his rank permits. One can get admission in VIT upto rank 90000 in any category. Hope this helps.

At my admission time, there was only Vellore and Chennai branch two years ago and these branches are recently opened by VIT. Let me explain you the admission system here. Rank in VIT to get admission should be 90,000. So, you can get admission in VIT from the 6th category as well. There are various categories as well with each category admission fees go high. First category closed till 15,000 rank and you can get CSE till 9000 rank and IT till 11000 rank but there are 2nd category as well if you want CSE but you have to pay more for that. Bhopal and Amravati branches are opened recently. So, the rank to VIT University may go high as expected. Can't tell which branch you get but it's sure you will get any branch from 6th category. So, you have to pay more for that.

With that rank you will get electronics & instrumentation engineering in Vellore campus. Computer science specialization closing rank is 9000 and CSE core in 6000 rank. You have to take two courses of that desired branch in which you have to go and they will select first 2 or 3 out of many students for upgradation of their desired branches. Hope this helps. For admission you need fulfill the following criterion:-
The candidate should have been born on or after October 1, 1993 if belonging to the Open or OBC-NCL category and, on or after October 1, 1988 if belonging to the SC, ST or PwD category.
The candidate should have qualified, i.e., obtained a rank in UCEED 2018. The candidate should have passed the qualifying examination (Class XII or equivalent) in 2017 or 2018. Those who appeared for the first time in their qualifying examination in 2016 or earlier are not eligible.
