Hi.

Yes, NEET is mandatory for practicing medicine in India, but the details depend on your path:

MBBS / Medical degree abroad:

If you complete an MBBS abroad and want to practice in India, you must pass the FMGE / NExT exam (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination / National Exit Test).

To be eligible for FMGE/NExT, you must have qualified NEET-UG before joining the foreign medical college.

Implication: Even if you study abroad, NEET is required before admission if you plan to work as a doctor in India.

No, not if your goal is to practice in India later.

NEET-UG must be cleared before enrolling in the foreign MBBS programme for the degree

Hi.

BDS seats are very limited in government colleges across India.

For General category, cut-offs in government colleges are generally very high:

Top government colleges (like Maulana Azad, Delhi, Mumbai, etc.) usually require NEET scores ≥ 600–650.

Mid-tier state government colleges cut-offs: 450–550 (may vary by state and category).

370 is unlikely to secure a BDS seat in any government college for General category.

However, private dental colleges or Deemed Universities may have seats available at your score.

Hi.

NEET is mandatory if you are an Indian citizen and you want to:

1. Study MBBS abroad and return to India to practice as a doctor

In this case, NEET qualification is compulsory because the National Medical Commission (NMC) requires NEET to:

  • Get admission to most foreign medical colleges.

  • Later sit for the FMGE/NExT exam to practice in India.
