For any teaching job, you need more than just a BA in any subject. For school teaching, you will need a Bachelors degree in education whereas for college teaching, you will need a Masters degree in arts. Regarding the question, which subjects would help in getting government teaching jobs, I would say a subject which you love to study, you will also enjoy teaching the same. So find which subject you would love to study. As for job opportunities in government teaching jobs, look into the newspaper wherever you are based and look into the employment opportunities available into the field in which you are interested. If you find there is a demand for the subject you have selected, just go ahead and study. A teacher who is disinterested in the subject he/she teaches would never make a good teacher. Language teachers are always in demand and so are teachers teaching economics or other social sciences.
