Footwear Design and Development Institute, Chennai provides two BDes specialisations. The seat intake is 60 for each specialisation, totalling the intake at 120. Footwear Design and Development Institute Chennai BDes admission criteria is as follows:
- Class 12 in any stream from any recognised board or any School/ Board/ University examination in India or in foreign country recognised by the AIU as an equivalent to Class 12 system (OR)
- Studetns who have passed School Examination conducted by the National Open School with at least five subjects; or AICTE)approved three-years full time Diploma after Class 10 offered by Board of Technical Education of any state or Union Territory can also apply
- Students must appear for the institute-level test (AIST) for final selection

Both FDDI Jodhpur and The Design Village are good options to pursue BDes. However, in terms of affordability, FDDI Jodhpur is more affordable since the tuition fee to pursue BDes at FDDI Jodhpur is INR 6.74 lakh, and the tuition fee to pursue BDes at The Design Village is INR 24 lakh.
