Most of the top-ranked colleges in India give admission to BTech IT on the basis of relevant entrance exam scores. You need to appear for exams like JEE Main, MHT CET, KCET, etc., and get excellent marks in the same to grab a seat at a popular college.
Having said that, there are more than 400 BTech Information Technology colleges in India that give admission considering the Class 12 board exam marks. A few colleges may also give 50-50 weightage to both the factors.
So, you must go through the official websites of the colleges you are planning to apply to and check their admission process and selection criteria.

Yes, of course. You can get lateral entry admission to the BTech Information Technology course if you have a 3-year engineering Diploma in a relevant course with at least 50% marks in the final exams. The lateral entry provision allows you to directly enter the 2nd year of the BTech IT course and complete the degree in 3 years. Colleges like Jaypee Institute of Information Technology (Noida) and Lovely Professional University offer lateral entry to the BTech Information Technology course.

With a CRL (Common Rank List) of 858,390 and an OBC (Other Backward Classes) rank of 332,295 in JEE Mains, admission to a government college for a B.Tech in Information Technology (IT) is not feasible. Historically, cutoffs for government colleges are way lower, especially for popular branches like IT, and can ask for much higher ranks.
But cutoff ranks vary every year based on available seats, reservation in the category, and number of applicants. Look for the latest cutoff information on the official website of JEE Mains counseling (JoSAA) and visit private college as well.
