In India, any university can get recognition out of the act passed on either in state legislature or in the Parliament. As and when the particular act is passed on behalf of the formation of one University it becomes eligible for getting recognition of UGC by fulfilling the T&C of UGC for which they need to move forward. So far my knowledge goes one University does not require separate recognition from AICTE. But if the University affiliates any College which will conduct undergraduate Engineering course - the particular college requires branch wise CS / ECE/ EE etc.). AICTE approval. It will be better if you visit and consult AI

In India more than thousands of engineering colleges and more than hundreds of colleges are offering B.Tech/BE in automobile engineering, but the issue is of seats. It depends on your choice as to which college you are targeting, many institutes take lateral admissions.

As far as my knowledge goes about my college, it is only for Diploma holders. Though there is a way to get into the main campus if you have studied the first year in any other Manipal University college.

Placements for mechanical in MAIT are around 70%.
10- 15% students go for further studies. Core companies that visit the campus are very less, 2 or 3 only. Nearly 50 IT companies visit the campus every year which include Adobe, Amazon, TCS and sometimes Microsoft also. Faculty for mechanical is very good and friendly.
