Applicants should have passed Class 12 with any recognised board irrespective of stream. They do not require prior knowledge in computer Science or coding. The eligibility criteria to apply to a Merit-cum-Need Scholarship at BITS Pilani is a high CGPA and a parental annual salary of less than INR 10 lakh. CGPA cut-off might change every semester. The scholarship supports students belonging to a lower economic status, but who are academically bright too. The process of selection is competitive and is based on both merit and monetary background.

BITS Pilani gives two basic types of scholarships Merit Scholarship and Merit-cum-Need Scholarship. The Merit Scholarship depends only on CGPA of the student but the Merit-cum-Need Scholarship is dependent upon the annual income of the parents of the student. These scholarships waive 40% to 100 percent of tuition fee. To be eligible, students are required to go through their admissions.
