You can start from first year onwards, dedicate some time to practice verbal and quant questions. Weekly tests based on CAT pattern will also help you in preparation.

Practice as much as you can, try numerous questions of reading comprehension, para completion and jumbled sentences. Practice is only to score good in VA section.

If you are writing entrance exam for engineering colleges, then 12th class subjects will matter. If you are writing exams for MBA entrance exams, then class 12th science subjects will not matter.
