Hi Aratrika,
After completing class 12th, you can either pursue BE/ B.Tech, B.Sc in biology or biotechnology or genetics/ microbiology and related fields. Ideally, you must be a students with PCMB background. A B.Sc is more common as not too many institutes offer UG level genetic engineering programs.
Entrance requirements vary from university to university. You can consider:
1. SRM University.
2. Institute of Genetic Engineering – Kolkata.
3. Aryabhatta Knowledge University, etc.

Hi, Most institutes in India do not offer genetic engineering as a specialization at the undergraduate level, but at the PG level, it requires applicants to complete BE or B.Tech. It requires applicant to complete class 12th with physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology. Alternatively, you can now enroll into a B.Sc program in Biology and/ or related programs like microbiology, biochemistry, biotechnology, etc.

If you are confident enough to develop your personality, if you have good communication skills, if you have grip on English, and if you are ready to work hard and smart for the entrance exam, then you can just go for it. If you do well in the entrance exam and in the next stage, then academics won't matter much.
