If a candidate has 6 subjects and you failed in 2 subjects then he/she can give a compartment. If a candidate has only 5 subjects and failed in 2 then the candidate is said to be failed.

The CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) has a "best of five" rule for calculating the aggregate marks of students in the 12th grade. According to this rule, students are required to take five subjects in the 12th grade, and the marks of the three best subjects are considered for calculating the aggregate marks.
