St. Xavier's College is a popular college as NIRF has ranked it 6th in the 'Science' category in 2024. Moreover, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has recognised it as a 'A++' grade institute. In May 2006, UGC declared SXC Kolkata with the title of 'College with Potential for Excellence'. Further, from July 2006, it became an autonomous college, which made it the first college to do so in the state of West Bengal.

St. Xavier's College Kolkata is a reputed institute for MBA/PGDM, UG Diploma, Certificate, BEd, MA, MCom, BSc, MSc, BA, BCom, BBM/BMS. In 2023, the college was ranked 6th by NIRF 2024 in colleges category, 7th in Science category and 9th in Arts category by The Week. It also provide placement support to the students. The salary package offered in the SXC Kolkata placements range between INR 3.50 LPA and INR 24 LPA. Considering offered packages, it presents a good return on investment as the course fee at the college range between INR 2,000 and INR 7.8 lakh.

Yes, the college conducts placement drives every year. However, more than 500 students were placed form various department such as Economics (Hons), Mathematics (Hons), BCom, MCom etc. through on campus and off campus placement drive. Earlier, as per the placement brochure 2022, more than 650 students were placed. Many top recruiters visited the campus such as PwC, Accenture, ICICI Bank, Shiksha.com among others.
