Kashmir University offers admission to most of the courses based on entrance exam. The university conducts KUET for admission to UG and PG courses. The university also accepts scores in national-level entrance exams such as GPAT, UGAT, CUET, GATE, etc. for specific courses.

Candidates must have pased BSc or any other UG degree with at least 60% aggregate to apply for NIT Srinagar MSc course. Aspirants must hold the documents proving their eligibility for verification at the time of admission. Besides, candidates must also qualify IIT JAM for admission to MSc course.

The University offers a variety of merit-based scholarship to the deserving candidates. The scholarship programme of the University has been categorized into three: Merit Scholarship, Research Scholarship and Students Aids.
- Merit Scholarship
Students taking admission in the University are eligible for the scholarship on the basis of entrance exam scores for a particular course. Scholarship will be given to top two merit holders.
- Research Scholarship
There are four scholarships in each Department/Research Centre will be given to students perusing Ph D degree. The amount will be paid annually to cover miscellaneous expenses.
