You have following options to become a software engineer (technical career in IT field) in order of precedence:
(a) B.Tech CSE or IT of ECE(b) BCA-MCA
(c) B.Sc-M.Sc CS and IT
(d) Graduation with Computer PG Diploma
(e) IT Certifications, etc.

You can pursue B.Tech with CSE to become a software engineer. I would suggest you to take CSE as it has a better scope than IT.

Hi Raghav,
You can choose both, CSE and IT branch to become a software engineer. But, I would suggest you to choose computer science engineering. It is better in comparison with information technology.

Hi Akash,
You can either go for BCA + MCA or B.Tech CSE after completing class 12th, if you want to become a software developer.

You are advised to pursue B.Tech in CSE to become a good software engineer. The second best option is B.Tech IT. These recommendations are based on market acceptability of various degree.

If you are studying computer science in your graduation, you can learn software languages which are currently in use in IT companies like SQL, PHP, Python, R and JavaScript. You need to master one of these languages. Almost all the languages have similar concepts only the syntax changes. Companies do look for Masters of any software language. You can become a System Engineer (designation in IT companies which is equivalent to software engineer).

Till date, AICTE and UGC didn't frame strong policy on engineering programme through distance mode or correspondence. So, keeping the safer side, you should go for regular mode for and even for complete knowledge, skills and practical work that you would miss in distance mode.

Yes, it would be a good option. However, a better option would be to pursue MBA in information technology management (IT).
