Degree is always superior to Diploma for a given stream. You could argue that both are of equal duration. Diploma holders are given chance in good companies but they have their vacancies. Same is with degree.

There are some universities out there offering distance engineering courses, but I suggest enquiring about their credibility beforehand. If you can manage to study both the courses simultaneously, then yes you can do so but not from the same university.
