Go for electrical engineering n m saying this becaise u wont find a lot of female frndz in mechanical dept. So, better go for electrical. Also electical has more scope now a days.

If you want to prepare for GATE then start studying your 1st year and second year electrical engineering course from now. Also focus more networks engineering and control system questions. These chapters carry more weight age in GATE. Just be thorough with your syllabus of 2nd year and 3 year. Also try to solve previous year question papers. You will get an idea about the questions being asked and look for questions which from 2nd year syllabus. The scope for aspirants after completing B.Tech in Electrical Engineering is very vast both in terms of higher studies and for immediate jobs. Being one of the core subjects of engineering, the job prospects after B.Tech is available in almost all sectors. As the modern life is completed dependent on electrical objects, electrical engineers have a great demand in almost all fields. The job prospects are very high with or without post graduate degree. Having a post graduate degree will increase the prospects.
