Yes, it is very important because JEE exam score tells the skill level of a student over 3 core subjects. However, do not think that it tells everything about your future.

From the past cut offs there is a high chance of acquiring the seat in 2nd round counselling. But as everytime the cut off changes it is better to keep a second option.
