Yes, candidates must carry their GATE admit card with a valid photo identity card (original). The ID card must be the same as the one in the GATE application form.

No, candidates will not get extra time. The GATE exam lasts three hours, and candidates will be given three hours only to complete it.

Yes, candidates will get a scribble pad to do the rough work. However, to obtain a second scribble pad, candidates have to return the first scribble pad. Once the exam is ended, applicants must return the scribble pad. For calculations, a virtual scientific calculator will be available on the computer screen.

IIT Guwahati will activate the form correction window in the first week of November (tentative). However, the last date to edit the GATE application form is November 6, 2025. Candidates can make edits to the GATE application form at the GOAPS portal.

The GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) comprises multiple-choice questions (MCQs) as well as numerical answer-type questions (NAT). The MCQs have four options, out of which candidates have to select the correct one. In NAT questions, candidates need to enter a numerical value as the answer using a virtual keypad. In the GATE Multiple-Select Questions, there will be more than one correct answer.

You can add a second paper after submitting the GATE application form. Follow the steps below to add a secondary paper to the GATE application form. 

  • Visit the official GATE website

  • Click on the application link, and you will be redirected to the GOAPS portal.

  • Login using the credentials - GATE enrollment ID and password

  • The application form status will be displayed on the screen

  • On the screen, there will be an option to add GATE paper. Click on the link 

  • Select and make the payment for the desired GATE paper

  • Keep a copy of the payment receipt for future reference.

You can change the category only during the GATE application correction process. The GATE 2026 application form correction window will be activated at the GOAPS portal after the completion of the GATE registration process.
