To register for the GATE exam, candidates must visit the official website—gate2025.iitr.ac.in—and register at the GOAPS portal. The GOAPS portal was activated on August 28, 2024, for the GATE 2025 application form. The last date to submit the GATE application form is September 26, 2024 (without late fees) and October 11, 2024 (with late fees).

GATE, also known as the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, is a prestigious national entrance examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kanpur, Guwahati, Kharagpur, and Roorkee). The PSU recruitment through GATE scores requires the following criteria -

  • Age-Limit - The minimum age limit is between 21 to 28 years.

  • Minimum Qualifying Marks - The minimum qualifying percentage for PSU recruitment can be around 50 to 60%.

  • Medical Fitness - Candidates must meet the medical requirements set by the authorities during the recruitment. 

  • Nationality - The candidate’s nationality must be Indian.

The PSU recruitment through GATE is based on the candidate’s performance in the GATE examination. Some of the reputed PSUs that offer recruitment through GATE scores are - 

  • Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL)

  • Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL)

  • National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC)

  • Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL)

  • Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL)

Some other well-known PSUs include ONGC, NHPC, Power-Grid, NALCO, IOCL, etc.

The previous year’s cutoff and rank trends show that the ideal GATE rank for IIT admission is around 200 or lower. However, the competitive range for GATE scores for IIT admissions falls between 400 and 800. Candidates must check the official website of the IITs to check the cutoff and ranks (stream-wise).
