For studying UG courses in Genetic Engg., you should get at least 50 to 60% marks in the Physics, Chemistry, Math/Biology subjects in Class 12 boards. For PG courses, you must have completed B.E/BTech in a relevant field with 55% marks. It is mostly offered as a specialisation at the postgraduate level.
A few colleges also offer PhD programs in Genetic Engineering for which you must hold a master's degree in Genetic Engg., Biotechnology Engineering, or a related field with at least 55 to 60% marks. Further, you also need to give relevant entrance exams for getting admission to the course at best colleges in India.

For admission in industrial safety it is mandatory to have B.E. / B.Tech.
Candidate may also have obtained a Degree in science with Physics or Chemistry and relevant practical experience in a supervisory capacity for a period of not less than one year or may also have obtained a Diploma in any branch of engineering or technology and relevant practical experience in a supervisory capacity for a period of not less than two years.

The ones who is interested to pursue a degree course in genetic engineering has to complete class 11th and class 12th from Science stream with physics, chemistry, biology or biotechnology as the main core subjects. Minimum age required is 17, and maximum required is 25 years. Whereas, relaxation is provided to reserved categories as per government rules. Top universities of all country conduct entrance exam for the admission of aspirant's students to this genetic course.

For getting admission in IISC for Bachelors in research, you have to qualify NEET and also, you have to score at least 60% marks in the 12th exam with main subjects as biology, physics and chemistry. Students appearing in 2017 are also eligible for this but they have to qualify NEET exam.
