A genetics course (BSc or MSc in genetics) does not entitle you to the title of 'Doctor' unless you have completed a doctoral degree or have medical specialties like a surgeon, gynac and more.

Hi.

Yes, some math is needed for Genetics — but you do not need to be a math expert.

Genetics & Math: What's Actually Required?

At school / basic undergraduate level

  • Very basic math only

    • Ratios and percentages

    • Probability (e.g., Punnett squares)

    • Simple statistics (mean, graphs)

 If you're comfortable with Class 10–12 math basics, you're fine.

Undergraduate Genetics / Life Sciences

You'll encounter:

  • Probability & statistics (inheritance patterns, population genetics)

  • Graphs and data interpretation

  • Basic algebra

 No advanced calculus in most programs
