Candidates who have a passion to research and study about the vast and dynamic field of geology will surely be able to easily grasp the core concepts and score well in the exams conducted during the course. You do need to have a strong base in PCM subjects and a desire to gain more knowledge and relevant skills required to make a career in the field of geology.

Eligibility for PGT Exams with an M.A. in Geology 

To know whether you would be able to apply for the Post Graduate Teacher applications or exams of any of the following like DSSSB, KVS, or NVS, it is important to note the requirements of each one separately as any of the PGT openings usually would require a person with a master's degree and a bachelor's degree in education.

DSSSB (Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board): Generally, to be eligible for PGT posts related to geology, the student has to complete a Master's degree in Geology or an allied subject. A B.Ed. will be preferred.

The basic difference between both is that Geoinformatics is a broad field that merges Geography or Geology with Informatics. In contrast, Geology is a discipline that studies the Earth's structure, materials, and history. Their subjects, course curriculum, and career scope also differ.

It provides an M.Sc in Geology. Part-time opportunities, however are not generally possible as the majority of these programs tend to be full-time as they comprise much practical component and work done in a lab setup during geology studies. The best is to ask at Madras University, whether they do have a part-time option or distance-learning possibilities open there for related areas. If part-time study is essential for you, consider exploring other universities that may provide flexible learning options or online courses in geology.
