Dear Jaskaran,
A GMAT score of around 500 should be considered decent to start with. However, the selection at the institute will largely depend upon various criteria such as educational background, entrance test score, extra-curriculum achievements, work experience, and personal interview performance.

The selection of the candidates for admission to the 2018-20 batch of the PGP at IIM-A is a two-step process.
In the first step, candidates are short-listed for Academic Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI) from among the candidates who have a valid CAT/GMAT score, who have applied to the programme and who satisfy the eligibility criteria for the programme.
For the eligibility criteria, you can visit the website.

For most of these colleges, you have to go through a GDPI process. Colleges will take your profile as well as your performance in GDPI then accordingly they will make a decision to select you. So, focus on your GDPI.

GMAT exams are mostly given by candidates for admission in MBA courses for admission into business schools. If you are looking to apply for an MS or M.Sc course, you would have to appear for the GRE exam, and a language proficiency test. However, in most cases you do not have to appear for a language proficiency test, if the medium of instruction in your school was English.
