Talking about expensiveness IIT Dhanbad is lot more Costly than Birla Institute of Technology Sindri. The course fees are way more affordable in BIT Sindri than IIT Dhanbad. And since IIT Dhanbad is an IIT it requires a very good rank in JEE Main or JEE Advance and cutoff is also much higher.

Yes,
UPES School of Advanced Engineering is generally more expensive than IIT Dhanbad (ISM).
While the fees for B.Tech programs at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad range between INR 4 Lacs to INR 4.65 lakhs, the total fees for UPES can range from 10 Lacs to 20 lakhs depending on the program, making it significantly more expensive than IIT Dhanbad (ISM).

Not getting into IIT Dhanbad or any other top IIT should not be considered the end of a student's career. While IIT Dhanbad average package is INR 16.59 LPA for its 2026 placements batch, can IIT Dhanbad guarantee the same for each and every student of the batch? The answer is no.
Students always have an option to go to other good private and government institutions to pursue a BTech degree. Some of the options are:
