However, one can take the following steps that may work in favour of establishing your career as a Human Rights lawyer.
1. During your time at law school, make sure you opt for the subject of Human Rights as you elective to get a theoretical understanding of what the subject is all about and what all it will encompass.
2. Try and choose internships and apprenticeships in NGOs that work in your area of interest in the field of human rights (child rights, rights of women, rights of refugees, domestic workers' rights, etc. ). To build a good CV and also to gain a practical knowledge of the field that you are interested in.
3. After law school, try and focus your energies on getting a job with either a lawyer who practices in the field of human rights, or any NGO/law related institution like HRLN, Lawyer's Collective etc. Depending on your interest.
4. You could enroll in a Diploma/certificate course in Human Rights to boost your CV.

LL.B. Can be pursued either straight after school (online common entrance for law CLAT is conducted for the top national law universities all across India), or after graduation in any stream. Marks obtained in CLAT are used by several other universities also for their admission process. Examination is usually conducted in the month of May. More details about the exam can be obtained from their official website. National Law Universities mostly have the option of only 5-year law, I. e. after school. The other option is to pursue LL.B. After graduation. This is a 3-year programme. Various colleges across India have the option of a post-graduation LL.B. However, most national law universities do now. One of the best colleges to pursue law after graduation is from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University. 3-year LL.B. Can be pursued even if graduation was in a specialised field like engineering, architecture, etc. LL.B. Pre-requisite for enrolling in an LL. M. programme is LL.B. (either 3-year or 5-year). LL. M. can be general or specialised, depending on the choice of the pupil. For LL. M. from a national law university, CLAT is conducted. Just like for LL.B. These marks are used by various other universities for the admission process. LL. M. from foreign universities also hold great value for students interested in higher studies. HOW TO DECIDE WHICH ONE IS FOR YOU: If law is you first option for studies after school, you should definitely try to crack CLAT and aim for one of the top national universities. The 5-year training in law provided by these institutions is rigorous and thorough (even though in the first few years, general subjects like Indian polity and economics are also taught). A combined degree may be a B.A. LL.B. Or a B.Sc. LL.B. Depending on your choice of institution and the courses provided by them. Having an NLU on your CV helps you a long way in establishing a career in law. However, even if one does not make it to an NLU, not all is lost. The Bar Council of India is the government body which closely watches the college activities and gives approval. After giving approval, they visit on the regular basis to check the system of the college. Condition for approval is very long and every college has to fulfill these conditions for taking grant. And, approved colleges or universities in India are also so long. There are 700 law colleges in India, 400 University and 13 autonomous college in India and every year. Many students are taking admission in these law colleges and their degrees are also valued if they study from a recognised college.

There is no straight jacket formula which applies to all government colleges or all private colleges. I will give a brief idea about both of them, along with NLUs as a separate category, based on certain criteria:
Fee: While considering a degree, one definitely has to look at the fee structure of the course offered and whether or not it will be a potent future investment. Government colleges, as is known, have the most affordable fee structure. A post-graduation LL.B. From Faculty of Law cost less than Rs.10,000/- per annum. NLUs are slightly steeper in their fee structure, which can easily be over a Lacs per annum, for both tuition and hostel fee. Private colleges, in terms of fee, are the most expensive, reaching around 1.5-2lakh per semester, only for tuition fee. Residence, often, is not given by the college itself. Faculty: In a course like law, faculty is of prime importance, especially for someone pursuing law straight after school. Government law colleges are not really known for their faculty, which is, in most cases, just about average, even though some professors may be exceptionally brilliant. NLUs, on the other hand, have been known to house young and dynamic faculty, most of whom have done their higher studies from renowned colleges in US and UK. Private colleges have a mix of both. It is difficult to generalise. Infrastructure: NLUs have been known to have very good infrastructure, with well stocked libraries and comfortable hostels. Some also have smart classes. Private colleges also are rated well in terms of the infrastructure that they provide. Government colleges are not relatively praiseworthy when it comes to infrastructure.

Dr. Ambedkar Law University are both reputed colleges and provide good placement opportunities to their students. GGSIU is better than Dr. Ambedkar Law University but if a preference has to be made, one should consider other factors to decide other than placements. Other factors may include location, fee etc. One need to give weightage to this fact that one college is in the northern part whereas the other one is in the south. External environment affects the performance of students. Make a wise decision by selecting the college which is more suitable and not just for the sake of getting better placements. This may sound clich but the ultimate success is in the hand of the students especially in the field of law.

It is one of the most famous law colleges in the Delhi-NCR region. It is also among the first few preferences of students who look for colleges other than NLUs. The placements from this college are good. Although they may not be as good as top National Law Universities but students do intern and get offers from several law firms and top corporates. Another advantage of this college is with respect to place. Along with college, students can intern with lawyers in Delhi High Court as well as Supreme Court. The college also has a placement cell. Some firms that have recruited in the past are AZB partners, Dua Associates, Trilegal, Jyoti Sagar and Associates, Luthra and Luthra, Anand and Anand among others.
