1 and half a year is really a great time to crack JEE if spent in the right way.
There are two parts namely JEE Mains and JEE Advanced.
In mains, the questions are not that tough but they require high conceptual knowledge and solving skills.
The questions are from PCM only based on classes 11th&12th syllabi (NCERT).
First, you can go through the concepts in PCM as they play a major role in any of the exams.
The questions in JEE Mains will be generally easy but you need to master the concepts to be fast in answering as the time is not much.
You can prefer NCERT books for getting conceptual clarity. Then you can prefer TMH (Tata Mc Graw Hill) and Arihant books for PCM concepts as well as problems.
They are really good books for JEE preparation and they provide good quality of exercises for practice.
You can solve as many problems as you can within the time limit so that they will provide you with a better way of preparation for JEE Mains.
For Advanced, you may require coaching as it is not very easy to clear with self-preparation.
You may follow the above tips but you need to go for more advanced concepts.
The previous year papers would help you to know the quality of questions in JEE Advanced and then practice more.

Below are the preparation tips which will help you while the JEE Mains Preparation:
Start your IIT JEE preparation with Class XII textbooks that you have. You can also refer to NCERT books that are prepared by many subject experts and are quite economical too.
Beware of using too many reference books. There are so many books that you can use for reference. Use the ones that cover maximum syllabus and suit your learning style.
It can help to score more by indexing topics in order of priority or weight age they carry in the JEE Main and class 12th board exams.
Grill yourself into the basics until all your fundamentals are very clear as JEE Mains is specifically designed to test how well students have grasped the topics and how they apply them to a given set of problems.
Time management is an important factor in JEE Main. So, while solving model JEE question papers, keep an eye on your watch too. If solving a question is taking too much time, move on.

Devoting one full year for competitive exam preparation has its own merits and demerits. Dropping a year means that you will get sufficient amount of time to prepare for competitive exams. It will allow you take mock tests and help you to secure a good rank in competitive exams. However, one year is a long time so the possibility is that you may change your goals and objectives. You may become lethargic because of the availability of time and lesser pressure. You may waste time. If you are confident of keeping the momentum, dedication, determination, readiness to work on a plan, will to achieve your objective and support of family, you may consider dropping a year for competitive exams.

JEE Mains paper 2, one of the national level undergraduate exams will be conducted for admission to IIITs, NITs, GFTIs and other private institutes for B.Arch and B.Planning degree programs.
The candidates have to qualify JEE Mains paper 2 for admission into NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. While you need to clear AAT (Architecture Aptitude Test) for admission into IITs for B.Arch.
The Duration of this exam is 3 hours.
The question paper has 3 sections namely:
1) Mathematics (Part 1) 30 Objective Type Questions
2) Aptitude Test (Part II) 40 Objective Type Questions
3) Drawing Test (Part III) 2 Questions testing drawing aptitude of candidate
The total marks are 390
The marking scheme is as below:
Part I & Part II:
1) Each question carries 4 marks
2) For every incorrect attempt, 1/4 marks will be deducted
Part III:
3) 2 questions carrying 70 marks. The marks allotted to the two questions will be displayed alongside the question.
