Around 220 should be enough. However, if you have reservations edge then 120 is enough.

The last date to apply was January 1, 2018. So you can't apply now.

Absolutely, you can do that. If you are not well prepared to crack the JEE Mains exam right after your class 12th, then you may enroll after the gap of 1 year (or even 2 year). But Harsh, you need to be very careful for two things;
(1) There is a minimum age limit for JEE Mains exam. Make sure you are not violating that criteria while taking drop.
(2) The validity of JEE Mains is only up to 1 year and you can give utmost 3 times this exam in your life. I hope this helps. Ask any query at anytime.
