JHU being a global university welcomes students from all over the world. If we talk about the class of 2026, then for the undergraduate class entering fall 2022, the total number of applicants was 37,156 and total 1,310 students were enrolled. A total of 13% of international students were present. Johns Hopkins University is based in Baltimore, but its 10 divisions are spread out across 10 campuses on three continents. There are in total 4 Baltimore campuses; located at Homewood, East Baltimore, Peabody and Harbor East. There are nine academic divisions on the 4 campuses of Baltimore, and one in Washington, DC and facilities throughout the Baltimore-Washington region as well as in Italy and China. 

All campuses have the option of off-campus housing, and the Homewood campus and Peabody Institute campus are the only ones offering on-campus housing. Campuses offering on-campus housing have the option of choosing between Residence Halls and Apartments. The residence halls, also known as University Housing for first-years, offer a community living environment that encourages bonding with peers, seniors, and faculty. The University Housing has two types of accommodation – traditional residence halls or suite-style arrangements. As per U.S. News & World Report, Johns Hopkins University admissions are most selective with an acceptance rate of 8%. The admissions committee gives equal importance to a candidate’s full profile and does not just concentrate on the standardized test scores. The university believes that a student’s academic spirit can be derived by the candidate’s transcripts (academic record), teacher/professor recommendations, and test scores. Thus, one needs to maintain a strong academic record and score equally well in the standardized exams. Apart from this, the application documents and supplementary essays also help the admissions committee understand a candidate’s personality and deduce if the student is a good fit for the department/university. For undergraduate aspirants, the university has a separate webpage that showcases examples of essays that made a strong impact on the admission committee. JHU encourages each aspirant to go through these examples and accordingly draft the essays.

You can apply for any graduate programme through the university’s application portal. First, you need to create an account by registering as a first-time user.

Once you log in, you can start your application by clicking on the ‘Start New Application’ button.

A pop-up will appear with a dropdown option to select the school of your choice. Select the school and click on the ‘Create Application’ button.

The application details will appear, and you can continue to fill the application form by clicking on the ‘Open Application’ button.

For graduate programs, Johns Hopkins requires a three or four-year bachelor’s or a master’s degree (US equivalent) with the required GPA and any one of the English proficiency tests – TOEFL or IELTS or PTE. The score requirement may vary slightly as per school; however, JHU expects an applicant to apply with the following scores:

• TOEFL (iBT): Minimum 100
• IELTS: At least 7 overall
• PTE
• GRE: as per programme requirement
• GMAT: as per programme requirements

For undergraduate aspirants, JHU considers the grade 10, 11, and 12 scores and any one of the English proficiency tests:

• TOEFL  (iBT): Minimum 100; Reading: 26, Listening: 26, Writing: 22 and Speaking: 25
• IELTS: Overall 7 or higher
• Duolingo (DET): Composite score of 120 or higher; Literacy: 125, Conversation: 120, Comprehension: 135, and Production: 105
• C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency: 185 or higher

Standardized test requirements include SAT scores depending on the course. Credits are offered for Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and other internationally recognised exams.
