In every High Court, there is a Chief Justice and many other judges whose number is defined by the President of India. Appointment of the Judges: The Chief Justice of a High Court is appointed by the President with the consultation of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Governor of the State.he High Courts in India: Appointment and Qualification for Judges!
There are 21 High Court Courts in the country with their jurisdiction extending to all the 28 States and 7 Union Territories. Some courts have more than one States/ Union Territory under their jurisdiction. For example, the High Court at Guwahati has jurisdiction over Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
The High Courts at Chennai, Kolkata, Ernakulum have dual jurisdictions while the High Court at Chandigarh covers Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
The High court stands at the head of the judiciary in the State. The High Court comprises a Chief Justice and other judges, their number varying from time to time. Additional judges for a period not exceeding two years may be appointed by the President on a temporary basis.
Appointment and Qualifications:
Judges of the High courts are appointed by the President in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, Governor of the State and also the Chief justice of the concerned court.
For appointment as a judge of a High Court the person must be an Indian citizen who has worked as a judge in any court in India for a period not less than ten years. Advocates with a ten year standing in any High Court are also eligible besides jurists whom the President of India may consider as eminent.
Service Conditions:
The age of retirement in respect of the Judges of the High Court stands at 65 years. They cannot be removed except though impeachment by both Houses of the Parliament in accordance with the procedure prescribed in the Constitution. No judge has so far been removed by impeachment. In one instance where the impeachment proceedings had been initiated, the address could not muster the requisite majority.
Salary and Fringe Benefits:
The Chief Justice gets a salary of Rs. 90,000 p.m. while the other judges are paid a monthly salary of Rs. 80,000. They are also entitled to free furnished accommodation. These pay and allowances cannot be changed to their disadvantage.

CLAT provides admission to only 16 govt law colleges.Rest Law colleges take up students through different procedure.
There are another law exams like , LSAT which provide admissions to 5 year law programs in other govt. and private reputed colleges. Individual Universities like BHU conduct their own entrance test (BLAT) for the course.Likewise many other colleges have their own admission procedure.It varies greatly.
