An aspirant requires a B.Sc. degree after 10+2 with major /Hons in life sciences and any other related life science discipline like bioscience /Botany /zoology ,they become eligible for this course. Some colleges grant admission on the basis of an entrance exam whereas some grant admission on the basis of merit and marks obtained in the graduation. The applicant must have completed a B.Sc degree of a subject relevant to life science with a minimum aggregate of 50% .

The exam pattern for the GATE Life Science (XL) paper is as follows: The total number of questions will be 65. These questions will be divided in three sections: (a) Compulsory Sections: 1. General Aptitude Section (GA): This section will carry 10 questions for a total of 15 marks. 5 will carry one mark, and 5 will carry two marks. 2.
