London is usually welcoming to Indian students. However, some cases of racism like harassment, bullying over religion, and online abuse have been reported in the past.

The degree of such cases vary across the city. Racism towards Indian students is uncommon in areas like Southall, Wembley, Harrow, Ilford, and East London.

Mentioned below are some measures Indian students can take if they face racism in London:

  • Call the police on 999
  • Contact the Indian High Commission or the Student Unions
  • Report hate-posts on social media

London offers most cosmopolitan experience, employer access and networking but comes at higher cost. Consider-

Choose London if- You are targeting finance, law, or consulting careers; your budget allows for £1,200+/month living costs; you want maximum internship exposure.

Choose outside London if- You want to save ₹3–5 Lacs in living costs; you prefer a tighter-knit campus community; Birmingham, Manchester, or Leeds provide equally strong job markets in most fields.

Popular alternatives to London- Birmingham (2nd the largest city), Manchester (strong business hub), Edinburgh (quality of life), Leeds (affordable and growing), Sheffiel

London is bit expensive than other UK cities. Mentioned below is comparison-

London- GBP 1,200 - GBP 1,500 per month (required by UKVI-  GBP 1,334 per month for visa purposes).

Outside London- GBP 800 - GBP 1,000 per month (required by UKVI-  GBP 1,023 per month for visa purposes).

If budget is concern, cities like Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield or Coventry offer good universities at much lower cost of living. Many students save INR 3-5L per year by choosing outside London.
