Well, cutoffs differ for different courses such for Machine design you need above 720 GATE score. Similarly, For Cad-cam and automobile above 650 GATE score. For thermal above 680 GATE score. For production above 580 GATE score.

Worthy or not is a question which can be answered by choice of College from where you will do mechanical engineering. If IIT's are the option then you will definitely be placed. So, check college dynamics as every industry is facing job crisis but college reputation helps you out from this. Think twice before selecting a college.
