Reputed top ranked universities are competitive hence you have to excel in your academics. They look for all-rounders so build your overall profile. Research work, publications, patents and other extracurricular activities in addition to a good academic percentile is necessary. Meanwhile, check the admission requirements and student profiles on the university websites and prepare accordingly. You must also take the TOEFL or IELTS and GRE.

But in mechanical engineering, the application and study of physics will be more.
So, firstly make your physics a bit stronger by clearing the concepts, as physics will come almost in every branch of engineering.
And, think twice before choosing your branch of Engineering.
Try to select the branch in which you love to work and you have very much interest in it with curiosity will give you better scope than any other fields.
Best of Luck and work.
