Yes, Indian students with a valid student visa can work up to 25 hours per week during studies. Earlier it was just 20 hours. From November 3, 2025, New Zealand increased work rights for international students.

No, typically education is not free for Indian students. You must pay full international tuition fees. However, you can study at essentially zero cost by securing fully funded scholarships like the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship, which covers fees and living expenses.

Yes, for Indian students New Zealand is expensive. However, New Zealand is affordable in comparison to other popular destinations like USA and Canada. Rent & groceries will be your the biggest expenses. It is similar to costs in London or Sydney.

A Resident Visa is first step that allows you to live, work, and study in New Zealand indefinitely. A Permanent Resident (PR) Visa is granted after holding a Resident Visa for at least two years and meeting certain criteria. Key difference is that PR Visa removes all travel restrictions.
