Hi!
In order to take admission in M.Des course in NIFT, you should have a graduation degree. Diploma are not considered as an eligibility criterion for admission in NIFT.

The eligibility now completely depends on the counselling sessions and the seats available.

Hi Subahshree!
No, you don't have to write IICD exam to get admission in NIFT. NIFT has its own entrance exam that determines your admission in the institute. You can find the details here https://www.shiksha.com/design/exams/nift-entrance-exam.

The last admitted rank in NIFT-Patna in 2018 was 567 CMR. I'd say settle for any seat you get and apply till the last round of counselling as your chances are low. You can always work harder in your first year and then transfer to another college provided they have a seat available.

Hi!
Talking about coaching, it just depends on you. It is never a compulsion. I cracked NIFT without any coaching, more ver I prepared for NIFT in 2 months.
And, its obvious that you need to solve previous years paper as well as sample papers.
You need to start topic wise as per the syllabus.
One of the suggestion for the books is ARIHANT if you prefer not to go for coaching.
Best regards!
