The passing marks of the NIOS 10th board examinations are usually taken to be at 33 percent marks in any given subject. Therefore, as far as any exam is considered, students require achieving at least 33% marks in their respective theory, practical, etc. If students have failed any one of them, they would also be getting the chance through a compartment examination for the student. NIOS offers such flexibility that one can clear his exams within a certain number of attempts. Yet, it is always wise to check the latest passing criteria as offered in the official guidelines of the respective NIOS.

For re-admission to class 12th at the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), this is the procedure:
1. Go to sdmis.nios.ac.in
2. Log in using your student login
3. Select Re-register
4. Choose your stream
5. Submit
6. Click Go to Sr. Secondary/Secondary in the second dashboard
7. Click Review Form and fill out the application form
8. Pay the required fee and receive a reference number
