Yes, VNIT Nagpur is one of the nation's oldest NITs, having been founded in 1960. NIRF 2023 classified VNIT Nagpur as an institute of national importance in the Engineering and Overall categories.

NIT Silchar outscores NIT Agartala in terms of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2022 in the Engineering category. NIT Silchar was ranked 38, whereas, NIT Agartala was ranked 80 in the year 2022 by NIRF. However, academically, there is not much difference between the two. Talking about the fees of both the NITs, NIT Agartala M.Tech fee will range between INR 1.4 Lacs - INR 3.5 lakh. For NIT Silchar, the M.Tech fee is INR 1.4 lakh.
